The tutorial program began in 2022 as efforts to assist seventh-grade students in making a smooth transition to secondary education. Before the program started, a survey was conducted in some communities in the Kigoma region, involving conversations with community members. It was realized that access to education is no longer a challenge, but rather the quality of education remains an issue. The transition to the language used in secondary schools (English) poses a challenge for most students, as does Mathematics. Additionally, there is a need to integrate material and spiritual education.
Initially, the program's contents were Mathematics skills, language skills, and aspects of spiritual programs (The JYSEP). During the program in 2022, the teachers decided to include other Form One subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. In the second year of the program, 2023, the program content included these subjects again. It is hoped that through reflection, the program content will continue to improve over time, while learning how many years of secondary education each student should attend.
Generally the program unfolds under the wings of Ruaha Muongozo Foundation (RMF). Having a nucleus team at the national level, spaces are set for the team to reflect on the development of the program all over the country. When the team meets,it reads different holly writings and other related materials,but also goes through the annual and cycle plans and reflect on the achievements. The program is also working with the coordinator who oversees the development of the program in the country whom also has begun working along the regional teams in the region with more schools. This team meets once after two months. Mobilizing the teachers for eflection,reading the reality of the educational system of the country,disseminating awareness among the parents about the program, analyzing statistics and come up with comments to help the program, are a few among the functions of the team.
The Tutorial Program has made significant strides in education for Junior Youth.
